FAQs
How young can students join Chimo Taekwondo?
In our 20 years of teaching Taekwondo at Chimo we have found that children aged 5 and up have the maturity and focus to benefit from our style of training.
What does a Membership Cost?
We use a Punch Pass system of Memberships. You purchase 12 or 50 class passes and we take attendance at every class. This way you are only paying for classes the student attends. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see the Punch Pass Plans available. https://www.chimotaekwondo.ca/services
How often should someone train?
We encourage all of our students to train as often as possible. Everyone progresses at their own speed and that is usually determined by how often the student is on the floor.
Can I attend more than one class each night?
At a certain point in your training you will be invited to move from the Beginner class to the Advanced class. At that point you are welcome to attend both classes. The caution here is that the Beginner curriculum will not change because we have Advanced belts attending.
Can I train with my child(ren) or do I have to attend the Adult class?
We have many parents who are training with their children in the Beginner and Advanced classes. The dynamic in the Adult class is different than the kid’s classes so we recommend a mix of both.
How long does it take to get to Black Belt?
This is entirely dependent upon your dedication to the training and how fast you learn there skills required. For someone attending three times per week and practising on their own at home it is safe to count on at least three years of study to go from White to Black Belt. The age of the student also plays a part in this schedule and all belt promotions are at the absolute discretion of Master Large and Master Berakos.
My child has had issues of focus/discipline/self control/learning challenges/ in other sports and at school. Is Taekwondo a good choice for him/her?
In the 20 years we have been doing this we have experienced just about every ability and personality imaginable in our students. We are very good at creating a supportive yet disciplined environment that can have profound positive outcomes regardless of the unique abilities of your child. We communicate our expectations and outcomes clearly and work with parents and students to foster success and reduce the stress that can come from entering our unique world.
